Subject: Re: IMPORTANT MESSAGE
We have a little something that needs to be addressed
and folks will need to take care of. Sally from
the Best Western called me yesterday while I was in
class and said that their computer system at the hotel
has been completely erased of all of their reservation
made at the hotel through the end of the year.
She said the only reservations that they have still in
file are ones made through
www.BestWestern.com
or phoned in through the 1-800 main number and made
through the Best Western main computer system. They are
all in a panic. She wanted me to share with you and the
Bowed Dulcimer Folks that they will need to call them at
the hotel and rebook their rooms. Right now they're not
on record. If the Bowed Dulcimer Folks could call
and rebook their rooms, we'll be good to go. The Best
Western Phone number is 336-368-2237.
Thanks Ken-
Cammie
Greetings
from Far Away Pilot Mountain!! We're all set for the 3rd
Annual Bowfest , April 13, 14, and 15, 2007, and we have
more people here in Pilot involved this year. The cost
for the workshop will be the same as last year, $100.00
for full participants. This includes all instruction and
instructional material as well as lunch on Saturday and
the Saturday night concert. Each participant can have
one guest for the concert. You can send the registration
fee to:
Ken Bloom
600 West
Main Street
Pilot
Mountain, NC, 27041
Please
make the checks out to Ken. When you call the Best
Western here in Pilot, be sure to tell them you are
coming for the Bowed Dulcimer Festival. Mention the
SawBriar as this will be the key to getting the reduced
rate for the room. Suites will be available but not at a
reduced rate. The hotel is under new management from
last year. The schedule will be very much like last year
with a few minor differences. On Friday evening we will
do all the meet and greet at the hotel as well as a
play-around. Saturday will be instruction and playing
all day. Box lunches for the participants guests can be
ordered/purchased for an extra $10.00 each.
Cammie
will have the menu soon and will forward a copy with the
selections, so folks can place their orders on that.
They can email those directly to Ken and he can forward
those to Cammie or they can email those directly to
Cammie <
The Saw Briar
>,
whatever Ken prefers.
Cammie is
making arrangements for
another venue for the concert
Saturday night featuring Ken
Bloom with Jeff and Janet Furman doing some of the old
favorites and some very new material. Sunday morning we
will finish up the instruction and playing part of the
workshop and be done by noon. More details will be
available on the website as well as posted to the bowed
dulcimer list as they become known.
I welcome suggestions from anyone who plans to attend.
As I am always striving to make better instruments, I
also want to make this unique event better and more
suited to the needs and desires of the players. I look
forward to seeing a lot of you here!

Accomodations:
Best Western of Pilot Mountain, the Official Hotel of
the Sawbriar Acoustic Stage
When folks are booking the rooms
they will need to ask for the Sawbriar discount and
you need to call the local number
336-368-2237
(800-780-7234
may work). A block of
20 rooms has been
reserved for the event.
Since the motel is under new
management we are not sure what the prices will
be...there are regular rooms
(this includes continental breakfast) (either two
doubles or one king) or
Suites which offer a bedroom and
a separate living area (which can be used
for jamming as well) that
includes continental breakfast.
We have reserved a conference
room for jamming also.
Tentative
Schedule
Registration will begin on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM
at the
Best Western Hotel.. Workshops and concerts to
be held at the local Library - we would like to thank Ben &
Cammie Collier for all their help!
===========================================================
On Friday evening from about 8:00-10:00 PM
we will do all the meet and greet at the hotel as well
as a play-around. Ken will introduce the
bowed dulcimer followed by an open stage/open house
format where anyone who wants to can get up and play and
also to have a time when people who live close by can
come by and see the instruments and talk to the
participants. We are arranging for some jam rooms at
the hotel. (See below) Please feel free to bring “other”
instruments to jam (participants and non-participants).
Ken says “We'll be doing more in the way of actually
playing through songs this time and I will be devoting a
lot more time to the subject of jamming and doing some
exercises with everyone on how to do it, regardless of
your playing level. Those who can, play the tune. Those
who can't or don't want to, here are some alternatives.
That sort of thing.”
Saturday,
9:00-12:00, workshop. 12:00-1:00, lunch. 1:00-5:00 more
workshop. Dinner break. Saturday evening will feature a
concert by Ken, Jeff, and Janet. Jamming afterwards back
at the hotel.
Sunday,
9:00-12:00, more workshop and done. Ken wants to get in
the maximum amount of techniques, practice, theory etc.
so that people will come away from this workshop with
plenty to work on and hopefully enough encouragement to
keep on.
The
cost is going to have to be around $100.00 per person to
cover the expenses of lunch on Saturday, the building,
sound system etc. The price will include all the
handouts and maybe even (by then) a book, the concert
and participation in the jamming sessions.
Please
make your own arrangements for accommodations:
Best Western of Pilot Mountain is the Official Hotel of
the Sawbriar Acoustic Stage and they have arranged a
special rate:
Regular rooms are $59.00 plus tax (this includes
continental breakfast) (either two doubles or one king)
Suites which offer a bedroom and a separate living area
(which can be used for jamming as well) are $79.00 plus
tax (this includes continental breakfast). When
folks are booking the rooms they will need to ask for
the Sawbriar discount and you need to call the local
number
336-368-2237 (800-780-7234
may work). A block of 20 rooms has been reserved for
the event.
We
have reserved a conference room for jamming also.
=============================
. You can e-mail your choices
either to me or Cammie. Looking forward to seeing
everyone in April.
